Vice Chairman & Co-CEO

George has 23 years of experience in the insurance and financial services industries. Throughout his career, he served in various executive positions spanning Finance, Strategy, Corporate Development/M&A, Investments, Enterprise Risk Management, Treasury, Investor Relations and Law. His experience includes a unique combination of leadership at large, global firms such as MetLife and Bank of America with an entrepreneurial spirit. For example, he was a founding member of the Financial Institutions Group at Banc of America Securities, co-founded renewable energy and technology start-ups, and is an insure-tech angel investor. George has been centrally involved in over $50 billion of closed M&A and financing transactions in the insurance industry. He began his career as a corporate attorney at Simpson Thacher & Bartlett LLP in New York City before joining investment banking followed by the insurance industry. He earned a J.D. with honors from Harvard Law School and a B.S. in Management/Finance with honors from Binghamton University. He lives in Morrisville, North Carolina with his wife and three children.

Lou HensleyLou Hensley
Co-CEO & President

Lou has over 25 years’ experience in the insurance and reinsurance industry, most recently at Genworth Financial where he served in the roles of President of Life & Annuities and Chief Commercial Officer. He also spent ten years as a senior vice president with Wells Fargo & Co. and was executive vice president of Wells Fargo’s Bermuda-based reinsurance subsidiary, Union Hamilton Reinsurance, Ltd. He was instrumental in helping Union Hamilton grow from a start-up to a multi-billion dollar reinsurance company. He joined Wells Fargo and Union Hamilton as a result of Wells Fargo’s acquisition of Pivot, a leading insurance-focused technology and financial information services company of which he was co-founder and President. He holds a B.S. in Actuarial Science and Accounting from Ball State University.

Paul BrownPaul Brown
EVP, Finance & Strategy

Paul came to Global Bankers from J.P. Morgan, where he served as a Managing Director. He previously held leadership positions in insurance investment banking at Merrill Lynch and Credit Suisse First Boston. Paul holds a J.D. from the University of Virginia School of Law and a B.A. from Yale University.

Matteo Castelvetri
Managing Director, Europe

Matteo joined Global Bankers Insurance Group after spending 19 years in Investment Banking at Morgan Stanley and Goldman Sachs. As a Managing Director of Morgan Stanley's Financial Institution Group, he led the European Insurance effort and held primary coverage responsibility for several European large cap insurers. He has advised on over 50 transactions and has originated and executed some of the most prominent insurance M&A events, restructuring and IPOs in Europe. Matteo started his career at Goldman Sachs as a government bond and distressed debt investor first and then as an advisor to banks and insurers. He received a summa cum laude Bachelor Degree in Economics from Bocconi University in Milan and also holds a Bachelor Degree in Classical Guitar.

Brian Stewart
Chief Financial Officer

Brian previously worked for nearly 15 years at Genworth Financial, culminating in managing a
$30 billion balance sheet as CFO of Life and Annuities. His time at Genworth also included almost five years as CFO of the Medicare Supplement business and three years as Vice President, Capital, FP&A, Sourcing & Facilities in the European Payment Protection business. Brian began his career in General Electric’s Financial Management Program. He holds a B.S. in Finance from Bentley University.

Joe LurieJoe Lurie
Chief Information Officer

Joe brings over 20 years of experience in implementing cutting-edge information technology systems in the finance and insurance industries with a recent focus on digital technologies. He was a Vice President of Information Technology at Genworth Financial, as well as a Senior Leader of IT Operations at GE Financial Assurance. He previously held high-level positions at Barclays Global Investors, Matson Navigation, and Amex Life Assurance. Joe holds a B.S. in Information and Computer Science from Georgia Tech.

Scott Boug
President and Chief Actuary, Private Bankers Life and Annuity Co. Ltd.

Scott brings over 25 years of insurance and re-insurance experience. He has served as Head of Financial Solutions for SCOR Global Life Americas, as well as holding senior positions at Genworth Financial, Munich RE, and Aegon. He is a Fellow of the Society of Actuaries, Canadian Institute of Actuaries and a CFA Charterholder. Scott holds a B.Sc. in Statistics from the University of Western Ontario.

Chris HerwigChris Herwig
Chief Investment Officer

Chris has spent six years as the head of the global M&A team for Global Bankers’ parent company Eli Global, managing valuation, risk analysis, due diligence, and deal closing. He previously worked in deal analysis and execution for Anka Funds and Self-Help Credit Union, and in software management for SAIC. Chris holds a B.A. in Computer Engineering from Virginia Tech and an MBA with honors from the University of North Carolina's Kenan-Flagler Business School.

Sandy BillSandy Ball
Executive Vice President, Human Resources & Talent Development

Sandy joins Global Bankers from Genworth Financial, where she held a series of roles in the Training and Development area and most recently served as Vice President, Human Resources. She previously served at General Electric, which became Genworth Financial in 2004. Her career began at the American Red Cross where she was the Training Leader in both the Princeton, NJ and Richmond, VA organizations. Sandy holds a B.S. from Lynchburg College with a Master’s Degree in Human Resource Development from George Washington University. She also holds SPHR and SCP designations from the Society of Human Resource Management.

Will Romero Will Romero
Head of Risk & Strategy

Will has served in leadership positions at Financial Guaranty, Benfield, Swiss RE, Ernst & Young and New York Life. Most recently, he created Factor Re, a low cost and efficient financing vehicle for the embedded value in life insurance blocks. Will holds a B.A. with honors from Yale University, a J.D. from the University of Colorado, and an LL.M. in Taxation from New York University.

Renga-AppanRengarajan Appan
President & CEO of GBIG Business Solutions

Rengarajan has rich and diversified experience in insurance, financial services and information technology industries across North America, the UK, Continental Europe and India. His key areas of expertise include outsourcing and offshoring strategies, feasibility due diligence, and setting up offshore operations centers. He has held global leadership positions with multinational companies including Capgemini and Vertex. Rengarajan holds a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Madras and is a qualified Cost & Management Accountant, Company Secretary and a Fellow in Insurance.

Tamre Edwards
General Counsel

Tamre has more than 16 years of experience as a corporate and transactional lawyer, specializing in the insurance and financial services industry. He comes to Global Bankers from Nationwide, where he served as AVP, Associate General Counsel for Mergers and Acquisitions. Prior to joining Nationwide, Tamre worked in Chicago at Sidley Austin LLP and Locke Lord LLP and his practice focused on a wide variety of corporate, transactional and insurance regulatory matters. Tamre holds a B.A. in English from the University of Michigan and a J.D. with honors from Ohio State University, Moritz College of Law.

John Muscolino
President, Bankers Life Insurance Company

John has over 30 years of experience in the insurance industry, most recently serving as the State Executive Director of Wisconsin for Farmers Insurance. His years of experience holding positions in all aspects of the insurance industry has strategically driven Bankers Life to expand dynamically in new and existing markets. John holds a B.B.A. degree from Northern Arizona University and an MBA from the University of Phoenix.

Jeff Levin
President, Colorado Bankers Life Insurance Company®

Jeff joins CBLife after 20+ years with Genworth Financial. A successful commercial leader, Jeff has deep expertise gained through progressively larger roles in sales leadership, relationship management, business and strategy development, product development, sales force effectiveness, and wholesaling. In his most recent role as Vice President, Long Term Care Sales, Jeff led the Long Term Care Insurance distribution organization across all distribution channels. Formerly, Jeff was Vice President, Sales Growth and Development, where he was responsible for leading a multi‐faceted team that included account management, learning and development, and internal sales for Genworth’s U.S. life insurance business including annuities, life and long term care. Jeff graduated from the University of California at Santa Barbara with a B.A. in Communication Studies.

Dennis Necaise
President, Southland National Insurance Corporation

Prior to becoming President of Southland National Insurance Corporation in November 2016, Dennis served as President and Director for both Mothe and DLE Life Insurance Company. Dennis joined Mothe Life in August 1988, as an office manager and became Vice President in 2005 before becoming President in 2009. Dennis has a Bachelor’s Degree in Business from Our Lady of Holy Cross College.

Ray Martinez
Head of Regulatory and Strategic Affairs

Ray brings more than 40 years of experience in insurance and accounting, having most recently served as Senior Deputy Commissioner for the North Carolina Department of Insurance. As the primary solvency regulator, he was responsible for five divisions (Actuarial Services, Alternative Markets, Captive Insurance Companies, Financial Evaluation and Market Regulation) and a trust overseeing insolvent insurers under the control of the North Carolina Commissioner of Insurance. Ray holds a B.B.A. degree from IONA College and a CPA designation.

Rod Perkins
Government Relations Leader

Rod brings more than 25 years of insurance industry experience leading government relations, product policy, regulatory, and compliance functions. He most recently served as Vice President of Insurance Regulation with the American Council of Life Insurers (ACLI), a Washington, D.C.-based trade association with approximately 290 member companies operating in the United States and abroad. Prior to joining the ACLI, Rod spent 17 years leading compliance, audit, and government relations functions with Genworth Financial. This included serving as Genworth’s Chief Compliance Auditor, the Chief Compliance Officer for Genworth’s Long Term Care Insurance business, and as Vice President of Government Relations. Rod began his career with The Prudential where his roles included Tax Accountant, Human Resources Manager, Real Estate Auditor, Compliance Manager, and Internal Control Officer for Prudential’s annuity operations. Rod received his undergraduate degree from the College of William and Mary and an MBA in Finance from New York University’s Stern School of business.

Louis Belo
SVP Chief Compliance and Audit Officer

Louis served 24 years for the North Carolina Department of Insurance, most recently as Chief Deputy Commissioner. In this role he oversaw all insurance operations including the Personnel division, Information Systems and Controller’s Office. Louis began his career as a Policy Analyst at Durham Life Insurance Company after receiving his B.S. from the University of North Carolina at Wilmington.

Dean Fisher
Vice President, Corporate Finance/M&A

Dean joined Global Bankers with 10 years of corporate finance experience, having previously served as Director, Corporate Finance/M&A for Argo Group. In that role, he led the company’s M&A team responsible for mergers, acquisitions, divestitures, capital solutions and other strategic initiatives. Dean holds a B.B.A. degree in Finance and Accounting from the Stephen M. Ross School of Business at the University of Michigan.
